God’s Promises for Men and Fathers

Taken from a message given Father’s Day 2014

God the Father has given us great responsibilities, they are spelled out in the charge to Adam and marriage in Genesis 1:27-28

There are four key words and thoughts

Made in God’s image:       Who can live up to that?
Be fruitful and multiply:  Fill the earth: that’s easy
Subdue the earth:              Hard again
Rule over everything:       Again something difficult

Sound’s like God has set us to fail. But each of these concepts were meant for us to do them in relationship with Him. Then sin came and now we think we have do bear the responsibilities of leadership, parenting, subduing, all alone.

As men we often suffer from loneliness, aloneness, fear of success, fear of failure, lack of confidence, and sometimes anger rules our hearts. These are nothing more than the enemy trying to keep you separated from the God who made you in His image and loves you. Each promise speaks to one of our needs as men. God’s word and promises are for you.

My desire is that you are encouraged this morning as men and Fathers.

God’s promises to Fathers and men

To be with you. This speaks to our fears, we often feel alone in the decision we have to make, isolated in our thoughts and judgments.

‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10

To be faithful to you. This speaks to our need for significance and security.

He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark Psalm 91:4

I will cover you. I will protect you physically, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. b. My faithfulness is a place where you can rest. Relax and know that I have you covered.

God’s faithfulness is our security

To hear and answer your prayers. This speaks to our doubts, cares, and woes.

Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:3

To give you wisdom. This speaks to our ability to lead and walk in integrity.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Psalm 32:8

For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;

He is a shield to those who walk in integrity. Proverbs 2:6-7

To bless and protect you. This speaks to our legacy as men and Father’s. God the Father promises to bless us to the fifth generation.

“All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the LORD your God: “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country Deuteronomy 28:2-3

To give you strength and confidence. We are expected to be strong and confident, we want to be self-directed and in charge and not show weakness, but often our pride and ego get in the way. God says walk in my confidence and strength, I will make your relationships right because I want give you the strength to walk in victory each day

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Isaiah 40:28-29

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

Next steps: Spend some time with the Father this week and ask Him to help you be the man of His you want to be. Give Him your fears, anxieties, plans, and goals then pray for your family and those around you.

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4
